How We Got Started
Souhegan Valley Engineering had its beginnings in the region of Milford and Amherst, New Hampshire, in 1990. Although located in the area of the Souhegan River, we provided site design engineering services throughout the New England region.From day one, our goal has been to provide professional engineering services at a reasonable cost. We work hard and don't waste time on any project, thus reducing the final cost of services to the client. One of the ways we have been able to control costs is by reducing overhead, primarily through the use of subcontracting of specialty services. For example, we do not have in-house wetlands staff because it is an expensive burden to carry. Further, design is performed directly on the CADD system by the designing engineer, thus eliminating the overhead of a drafting department. We utilize AutoCAD/Softdesk software, allowing the design and drafting to be done in unison. This also allows for drawing file compatibility with other design firms, when required.
Our Growth
We started in 1990 with one client and have grown from there. Our first client had needs for the development and conversion of gas stations to convenience stores. We were soon providing underground storage tank installation designs, as well as site layouts for new and upgraded convenience stores throughout New England. As our client base grew, we began providing subdivision roadway grading and drainage for surveying firms that did not have in-house engineering capabilities. Our relationship with area engineering firms also provided us the opportunity to subcontract to these outside firms. We provided engineering design subcontract services in those times when hiring another engineer would not have been economically practical. We pride ourselves in these relationships because it proves our professionalism and integrity. These are important aspects of our firm.In 1994, we began, in earnest, to design segmental retaining walls. Since that time, we have provided designs for over 4,000,000 square feet of earth-reinforced retaining walls. Where We Are Today
Our office is now located in the small town of Unity, New Hampshire, but we still provide all of our services to projects throughout New England. We have staff registered in the six states of New England and the state of New York and are ready to provide the design services that you need.
